Thomas Harris in his book ” The added value of Public Relations” gives the following definition of marketing PR:
“Marketing public relations is the use of PR strategies and techniques to achieve marketing objectives. The purpose of MPR is to inform, to drive sales, to facilitate communication and build relationships between customers and companies, between customers and brands. The main functions of the MPR are the dissemination of reliable information, sponsoring important events and supporting causes, that help society.”
According to another marketing luminary, Al Rees, branding is built through PR, not with advertising. According to him, positive publicity is built gradually and takes time, unlike advertising, PR exudes plausibility.
